Stress does not stay in the mind. Over time, sustained emotional and psychological pressure accumulates in the body: as tightness in the chest, as disrupted sleep, as a fatigue that rest does not quite resolve. When conventional approaches have addressed the physical symptoms and yet something still feels unresolved, there is often an energetic and emotional layer that has not yet been reached.
Reiki works at that layer. It is a gentle, non-invasive therapy that supports the nervous system in releasing accumulated tension and returning to a state of balance and recovery.
Meet Anne Bila, Reiki Master Teacher
Anne Bila is a Reiki Master Teacher and Master Practitioner holding degrees in Usui Reiki and Holy Fire Reiki. She is a member of the UK Reiki Federation and brings over 15 years of experience across holistic health, energy healing and personal development. Her background combines management consulting with deep practice in reiki, NLP, mindfulness and meditation. Anne does not offer a generic treatment. She brings a sophisticated understanding of the relationship between emotional experience, nervous system function and physical health.
The Science Behind the Session
Reiki encourages the nervous system to shift from sympathetic dominance (the stress response) into parasympathetic activity (rest, repair and recovery). In this state, cortisol levels reduce, muscle tension eases, sleep quality improves and the body’s natural healing processes operate more effectively.
It is not a substitute for clinical care. For many patients, it is the piece that makes clinical care work as well as it should. Reiki is recognised as a complementary therapy by the NHS.
What Reiki Can Help With
Anne’s sessions are particularly valuable for chronic stress, anxiety and burnout, emotional fatigue and a persistent sense of overwhelm, grief, loss and major life transitions, sleep difficulties rooted in an unsettled nervous system, supporting recovery from illness alongside conventional treatment, and deepening the results of other therapies when progress has plateaued.
What to Expect
Sessions take place at our clinic within Hever Castle, in a calm and private treatment room. You remain fully clothed throughout. Anne begins with a conversation to understand what you are carrying and what you are looking to resolve. The treatment itself involves light hands-on or hands-off energy work, guided by what she senses during the session.
Anne may also draw on mindfulness and meditation practices where these support the work. Many patients describe the experience as one of the most deeply restful they have encountered, followed by a quiet clarity in the days that follow.
Reiki Training
Anne offers Reiki training for individuals and groups at First Degree, Second Degree and Master level. If you are interested in learning Reiki, please get in touch directly for course details and availability.
Reiki as Part of a Broader Approach
Where the body also holds physical tension requiring structural attention, osteopathy addresses what hands-on manual therapy can reach, while reiki works on the layer beneath. When emotional clarity begins to open and you feel ready to take purposeful action, life coaching can help you move forward with direction and confidence.
For those approaching reiki with genuine curiosity and healthy scepticism, what reiki is and what the evidence says addresses both the tradition and the research directly. Reiki and the nervous system explains the physiological mechanisms behind the stillness that reiki consistently produces. Burnout, anxiety and energy healing is an honest examination of what reiki can and cannot do for these increasingly common presentations. And when conventional treatment is not enough situates reiki within the broader context of integrated health care.
